ILLUSTRATOR: Gustave Doré (illustrator, 1832 – 1883) was a French illustrator and etcher born in Strasbourg. He was famous for his printed illustrations of over 100 books, including the works of Lord Byron, Cervantes’s Don Quixote, and Milton’s Paradise Lost. His most widely recognized illustrations are the 288 engravings he did for an illustrated English Bible in 1866. Although he is most famous for his wood engravings, Doré also excelled in oil painting, aquarelle, and sculpturing.
