SUBTITLE: How to tame your dragon
FORMAT: Book in isiXhosa
PAGES: 36
SUMMARY: Ben’s story was written for children of all ages (young and old). Ben’s story will help them cope with anxiety and remind them of wonderfully they were created.
Ben’s story helps you to discover a few things about anxiety, so that you can do something about it.
- Your body reacts when you are anxious. It feels like you are losing control. But you don’t have to. You can take back control and eventually stay in control.
- You want to get rid of the anxiety. But anxiety is actually an important way of protecting yourself. It doesn’t make sense to completely wish it away.
- When it feels as if the anxiety in your life is too much or unreasonably strong, you can teach yourself how to reduce it.
- Along with Ben, learn how to anchor yourself (to be “grounded”). This is a powerful technique that will help you immediately.
You can use Ben’s story to talk to your child about anxiety, which will help normalise the topic for them. The dragon is a useful metaphor for your child to say how he or she is feeling.
Ben and the dragon is also available in Afrikaans, English and Sesotho.
AUTHOR: Siegfried Louw is a minister, musician and play-therapist. He focuses particularly on creativity within children’s ministry. His own two children are his most honest critics.
